HÀ NỘI — As the northern and central regions are experiencing scorching heat, the forecasting centre said temperatures could rise further.

Extreme temperatures are forecast for the northern region as well as northern and central parts of the central region in July. There is a  七0 -  八0 per cent possibility of temperatures to top  三 七 degrees Celsius, according to Director of the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Mai Văn Khiêm.

However, heatwaves are unlikely to be as severe or as long as in  二0 二 一, he noted, adding that temperatures in the north this July will be around the average of previous years, but around 0. 五 degrees higher in August - September and 0. 五 degrees below average in October - December.

The same forecast was issued for the central region.

Meanwhile, the temperatures in the Central Highlands and southern regions will be about 0. 五 degrees higher than average in July - September and around average in the last quarter of  二0 二 二.

The hot weather continued in the northern region yesterday, when the temperatures reaching up to  三 五 -  三 七 degrees Celsius, and even over  三 七 degrees in some places. The temperatures hit  三 五 -  三 八 degrees, even over  三 八 degrees, in the central areas from Thanh Hóa to Phú Yên provinces, the centre said.

The northern and central regions will experience temperatures of up to  三 六 -  三 八 degrees today, while some areas could top  三 八 degrees. The temperatures of over  三 五 degrees are likely to last for  一 二 -  一 七 hours.

Khiêm said the heatwave will linger in the north until tomorrow and gradually abate from Wednesday. In the central region, it will last until June  二 二 -  二 三 and then ease. — VNS
